"I recently performed a 2-week observation at the Septic Surgery Department in Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery (CMSC) at Charité - University Medicine Berlin, under the supervision of Dr. Trampuz and his team. It was a very good and unforgettable experience for me.
My daily work consisted of attending morning rounds, outpatient clinic, and consultation to other departments. I also followed the orthopaedic surgeons to the theatre to observe them perform several infection-related procedures. I was kindly given an opportunity to visit their research lab where cutting-edge projects on periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) were going on. Besides, I also joined the 2-day workshop on PJI. The workshop was a great success where participants presented highly interactive sessions with exchange of experience and strategies regarding PJI.
I was deeply impressed by how the interdisciplinary collaboration works in Dr. Trampuz’s team, where orthopaedics surgeons, infectious disease specialists and microbiologists work together to make the best treatment strategy for patients. I had good discussions with the scientists and students on their research projects as well. I also exchanged knowledge and made good friends with my 2 fellow observers Dr. Aija Vilde from Latvia and Dr. Donara Margaryan from Spain.
I am really thankful to Dr. Trumpuz for kindly enabling me to perform this observership. I was always motivated by his exhaustive knowledge, patience and kindness. Everyone there was helpful and nice to me. I would recommend anyone who is interested in the field to take this observership."
