Here is her report:
"I performed 6-week observership at the Septic Surgery Department in Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery (CMSC) at Charité-University Medicine Berlin. I would like to thank PD Dr.med. Andrej Trampuz for giving me an opportunity to work with a really great interdisciplinary team of orthopedic surgeons and infectious diseases specialists.
During my visit, my activities included attendance of morning rounds at the ward, daily patient visits, assistance at surgical procedures and doing bedside surgical interventions. I improved my surgical skills and knowledge in the area of orthopedic and trauma surgery, for which I am very thankful. But most important, I learned a lot about proper management of prosthetic joint infections which are uncommon, but very serious complications following joint prosthesis implantation and therefore it is necessary that therapeutic management is individualized for each patient and antimicrobial therapy is consistent with the surgical approach.
I also had the opportunity to visit research laboratory where ongoing research projects were presented to me.
I would like to thank Dr. Trampuz once again for extreme hospitality, kindness and most of all for sharing his knowledge with me. Many thanks go also to all of the Septic Surgery Department employees for giving me the opportunity to work with them and by that obtain a lot of new skills for my future career.
I would recommend this observership to all students, residents or doctors, who want to expand their expertise in prosthetic joint infections management and work with/learn from very friendly and motivated team members."
